I feel like every day of HOBY planning is another lesson in making money. In my daily life I go to work, do my work and at the end of the month I get money deposited into my bank account. Anyone who has ever tried to raise funds can tell you this is actually a pretty sweet deal. For HOBY we are currently trying a variety of methods, since we volunteers unfortunately do not get a pay check at the end of the month. We are talking to businesses and business leaders about sponsoring meals or students, we are reaching out to alumni and their families, we are putting on bowling tournaments and even bloging. This week we have two new ways you can help us help HOBY Washington.
The first is your vote. We had some great volunteers turn some cartwheels to help us join Verity Credit Union’s Cartwheel for a Cause. The top vote getter will receive $1,000 for the person who submitted the video and $5,000 for the cause of their choice. Speaking as the person who submitted the video I can safely promise that if you help us win all $6,000 will go to HOBY Washington. Voting is open from February 23rd at 9:00AM Pacific to 12:00PM Pacific, March 2nd. You can vote once per valid email address and we really hope you do. $6,000 would cover the cost for just under a quarter of the students attending this coming June.
The second is supporting our friend and board member, Jamie Utt and his goal to raise $7,500 by April 15th. The HOBY Washington seminar costs roughly $200 per student ambassador, largely used to cover food, lodging, and materials throughout the four day leadership seminar. His goal here is to raise enough to cover the seminar expenses for 25% of our ambassadors! To give you a sense of where your money is going, $20 will buy a meal during the seminar for three ambassadors, $100 will cover one student’s lodging for the entire seminar, $200 will cover one student’s entire seminar experience! Can you help us reach our goal?
If we can reach both of these goals, by April 15th we will have come close to funding half of the seminar. Want to help? You can find links to both of these efforts below and on our Facebook Page. Together we can make a big impact.
