Every now and then I find myself having to remind a student, parent, school counselor or even myself that we are all volunteers and between personal and professional commitments sometimes HOBY has to sit on the backburner for a bit. This came to mind as I was kicking myself for not keeping up with posts as often as I had intended. Sometimes I have to accept that there will be times that there are not enough hours in the day [...]
Tomorrow, November 5th, is International Recruitment Day and another fantastic opportunity to wear your favorite HOBY T-shirt! I think I mentioned last month that your HOBY T-shirt will lead you to other HOBsters throughout your life assuming you wear it at opportune times like a trip through the airport, at other leadership events, even to the grocery store. One of those great opportunities is coming up tomorrow. Put on that HOBY T-shirt and wear it to school. You’re the first ambassador from your [...]
This weekend we had a couple fundraising events for HOBY Washington that brought some of my favorite HOBY friends to Seattle for the weekend. I am always amazed at how close we are to these friends considering how little time most of us get to spend together. One of my favorite HOBY memories is of an ambassador asking myself and another HOBY volunteer how we manage to visit each other so often when she was in school in Portland and [...]
This articleabout the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards was posted to the official HOBY Facebook Page this afternoon. It was a nice little reminder of the certificate I have stashed away among my HOBY things. All HOBY Alumni who reach 100+ recorded hours of service receive this award. I would like to take this opportunity to remind all of the HOBY WA Alumni out there to log their hours. I am also going to brag about our HOBY Washington Alumni accomplishments [...]
As HOBY T-shirt Day approaches I can’t help but think of my vast collection of HOBY T-shirts. There are many and I can’t imagine retiring any of them.
My HOBY Story reads a bit as a thank you letter. There are a few people who have been major characters in my story and HOBY would not be the same to me without them.
My HOBY story has a pretty simple beginning. I applied.
One of my goals with this blog is to share accomplishments of our alumni. Some will come will be in the form of a guest blog, while others will be links to personal blogs or news articles. Natasha Kamps, a 2008 HOBY Washington Ambassador and 2009 TA, spent the summer in Gabon, Africa and kept a great blog about her experience. Her blog can be found here. Thanks for letting me post this and good luck in college. Leah Cook, [...]
Sean Maginnis joined our HOBY Washington staff for the 2010 Seminar. Sean, like Adrienne had some very specific goals going into the SMART Goals session Sunday morning at HOBY, here is his story.
Out of the many roles I have taken on in life thus far, I have had the most satisfaction from being a HOBY alumni and annual volunteer since 2007. My 2010 year with HOBY, specifically, was my first year as a Junior Facilitator and my year to see the difference each can truly make in each ambassador’s life. This was also the year that I was vying for the title of Miss Tri-Cities, a preliminary to Miss Washington and Miss America…not to be [...]
This is my first blog for HOBY WA and I’m pretty excited to start sharing all of the wonderful things that our Alumni are up to. The plan is to have our various past and present HOBsters update the HOBY community via guest blogs that will be posted here. As the seminar season moves forward we will not only keep you updated on the amazing things our alumni are doing, but also introduce you to our team. I am pleased [...]
